Hand made screen printed plush

Multiple prints- just in case!
A little post for the birthday present I made my sister. I screen printed onto calico, stitched up the sides with my handy sewing machine and used stuffing from my flat mates dead duvet to make this little guy! I kind of miss sewing a little bit. If I ever get my hands on more calico and free time in the print room I'll have to see what else I can put together.

Jungle Vibes

Studio space. (Cute mug for tea is essential!)
Collaged idea
Photoshop development
The slow craft module is nearly over and my final screen printed piece was the wallpaper (here), but I couldn't really just stop so decided to collage some ideas I maybe would screen print if I had the time. They sort of match with the wallpaper I guess (but with a bit more detail) and I think they could make cool prints! The last image is something I pulled together in photoshop. I'm really loving the colours in this one… Can't imagine trying to screen print this as a repeat though. I would probably have a mental breakdown.

It's mine and my sisters birthday tomorrow and she's coming all the way from Edinburgh to Leeds so we can spend it together! I'll finally be twenty and no longer a teenager, part of me doesn't want to think about it because I really don't feel like an adult but then I am excited because TWENTY. It's weird. Ahhhhhhh.

Finished wallpaper sample with repeat (yay!) + competition entry

I guess it might seem like I'm being repetitive but that's what comes with design. The development never really stops and part of me can see so much room for improvement it's hard to call this my 'final' piece anyway. Although it wasn't necessary to have a final piece I just really wanted to make a wallpaper sample which repeated so I know that I could do it, and I guess I'm half way there! (It repeats length ways but not horizontally.) The sample is a mixture of hand painting with acrylics, screen printing, a lot of stress crying and many happy accidents. I've noticed a pattern in the colours I use- they're always very warm and bright and I tend to go for pink and yellow a lot. I do love this combination though!
Digital design idea and visualisation (from my last project here) which forms part of my submission to the Bradford Textile Society design competition. Our tutors had the choice of who they would enter so I'm obviously happy but also a bit surprised that they chose mine and not in that 'oh my gosh I can't believe it' kind of way, I just don't think mine is that strong compared to others- but we shall see! I think the winners get announced on the 2nd of April so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm really enjoying my life at the minute and I'm so happy with the choices I've made. I know a lot of people struggle when thinking about uni, if they should go, what course to take, etc. and I just feel very lucky that I've made the right decision and that I love what I do. If I went with my first choice, before I took a year out to do my art foundation, I could be on a womenswear course right now attempting to make some sort of clothing. I'm so glad I didn't choose that route! Open days are a good thing and so is getting advice from your tutors, friends and family. Really take your time on it and think about it. If you're not getting the 'this is the one' feeling then maybe it's not right for you.

Hello March!

March consists of project deadlines, lots of birthdays (I will finally be twenty) and the start of three weeks off for Easter. Which is an unnecessarily long time in my opinion, especially for Easter, I get sick of going home after a week never mind for THREE. But this means I won't have to do my own washing or buy any food so I can't really complain. A few days ago Jenna from Scarlett and Giselle emailed me about answering some questions for a blog post and of course I said yes, her blog is beautiful and i feel very grateful to have been asked! You can read it here and see her lovely photography work here. Sometimes I wish I could meet everyone I've met through blogger but they all seem to live hours away or in completely different countries. *sighs and dreamz about this being possible*
