Finished wallpaper sample with repeat (yay!) + competition entry

I guess it might seem like I'm being repetitive but that's what comes with design. The development never really stops and part of me can see so much room for improvement it's hard to call this my 'final' piece anyway. Although it wasn't necessary to have a final piece I just really wanted to make a wallpaper sample which repeated so I know that I could do it, and I guess I'm half way there! (It repeats length ways but not horizontally.) The sample is a mixture of hand painting with acrylics, screen printing, a lot of stress crying and many happy accidents. I've noticed a pattern in the colours I use- they're always very warm and bright and I tend to go for pink and yellow a lot. I do love this combination though!
Digital design idea and visualisation (from my last project here) which forms part of my submission to the Bradford Textile Society design competition. Our tutors had the choice of who they would enter so I'm obviously happy but also a bit surprised that they chose mine and not in that 'oh my gosh I can't believe it' kind of way, I just don't think mine is that strong compared to others- but we shall see! I think the winners get announced on the 2nd of April so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm really enjoying my life at the minute and I'm so happy with the choices I've made. I know a lot of people struggle when thinking about uni, if they should go, what course to take, etc. and I just feel very lucky that I've made the right decision and that I love what I do. If I went with my first choice, before I took a year out to do my art foundation, I could be on a womenswear course right now attempting to make some sort of clothing. I'm so glad I didn't choose that route! Open days are a good thing and so is getting advice from your tutors, friends and family. Really take your time on it and think about it. If you're not getting the 'this is the one' feeling then maybe it's not right for you.

  2. Ahh, this is so exciting! I wish you the best of luck (but like Jemma above me mentioned, you really don't need luck with your kind of talent)! You've got such a great chance!

I'm so happy that you feel you're on the right path doing what you love- it's all that matters. I am finally realizing how important that is but unfortunately for me, it took me a lot longer to realize that.
