Easter

Happy Easter Sunday! ☀ Today I am wishing I didn't leave all of my chocolate back in Leeds and trying to complete an essay but since I brought my Wacom with me I can't stop drawing. My sister showed me these cool brushes you can load into Photoshop and I decided to try out the watercolour set. They're pretty fab to draw with! I'm so glad Spring is here as that means Summer is just right around the corner and I get to go on holiday, yipeeee!

I hope you're having a wonderful day!

London life, Internship, Alexander Calder

Observational drawings (alongside squiggly handwriting) from the Calder exhibition

Hello! Ignore the gross hands- during the first couple days of my work placement I was in the print room and ended up staining my fingers. It's been really great so far; everyone at Keelergordon has been super nice to me and the studio is wonderful and hectic but in a good way! The first week has been cut short because of Easter so I have ended up with an extra long weekend, since Jodie has gone to visit her grandparents who live nearby I'll be discovering London by myself which I think is the dreamiest way to explore any city.

Turning 21

Sparkle sparkle ðŸŒŸ

Today it's my 21st birthday and when this posts I'll be on my four hour coach to London!  I'm doing a three week internship at a fashion print studio so that's pretty exciting, and I'm also staying with Jodie so thankfully it won't be a lonely adventure.

The Wild Things

My final four outcomes

Closeup of the placement print

Hello! This is my finished collection for girls casual wear, screen printed by hand with hints of foiled detailing. My idea was to create a whimsical atmosphere where children and creatures could play in a world without adults; I was a bit wary at first with how this project would go but now I feel pleased and very relieved that I managed to get everything printed before the easter break! I did six A2 conversational prints in total but the last two were repeats of a design in a different colour way. Now the designing part is over it's on to lots and lots of writing... oh the joys of art school!

Designing a new collection

Designs for childrenswear

As we are in a new month I thought I would revamp my blog a little. I was really inspired by Lisa Congdon's wonderful design and I thought this was much more unique and "me"! Obviously it's not like I have anything better to do like an essay or anything, but I did do a little bit yesterday so in my mind that's ok.

I thought I would share a peek of my newest collection based on my ideas which I posted about here. I went for a slightly different way of working this time around as I wanted to focus on something more illustrative and character based. They will be screen printed at some point in the following two weeks and I also have to present two different colour ways which I'm working on now. Screen printing is rewarding, just as long as you have prepared everything beforehand!

Drawings of little houses and dyed fabrics ready to print on to
A creature I won't be using but I still love his face

Throughout my first year I thought I was definitely more of an "abstract" kind of designer but this just doesn't appeal to me much anymore. I love drawing  actual things, whether that is fruit or houses or cute little characters I've made up. I also love having the artistic freedom when it comes to character designing; I feel like my imagination is coming out a bit more when I have a story to tell!

For March: WGSN and lots of thoughts

My pineapple print on the right

Hello! I forgot to mention some good news. Our Paris trip wasn't just a mini "holiday" (barely a holiday as everyone was knackered by the end of it!) our fashion prints were exhibited at the Première Vision trade show and I actually sold a design which I was really delighted about. I also ended up being featured on WGSN for their Première Vision trend report and on their blog which you can see here. It took a lot of hard work to screen print my collection so I'm happy that it paid off even just a little bit!

Right now Ive been feeling quite down about uni, I don't really know why but I need to stop comparing myself to other people and just focus on my own work and accomplishments. A guest speaker came in a few months ago and told us to just be smiley and positive... but I suppose that's easy to say if you don't suffer from a few mental health issues, right? Not to get too serious; she made a good point! It's just difficult if you're already quite a reserved person and your mind is clouded with other unwanted thoughts and feelings. I am going to think more positively this month. Additionally I have a placement this easter at Keelergordon which I am really excited about!

March is expected to be quite an overwhelming month. I also turn 21... so there's that!
